Greetings, I am Malaika

Malaika translates to "Angel" in Swahili. I was born around 2020, but my exact birth date remains uncertain as I was rescued by individuals who couldn't gather all the precise details about my background. However, this doesn't really bother me since I am quite happy and healthy at the AAK farm in the Shimba Hills area. Fortunately, I quickly met Holly, and we fell in love, resulting in us having the most adorable donkey kid in the world, whom we've named Emilio. Now, we live as a joyful donkey family on the farm, and Holly and I are dedicated to raising our son Emilio in a safe and peaceful environment. We donkeys aren’t very demanding regarding food; there is usually plenty to be found around the farm. Even if the farm manager, Musa, isn’t thrilled when we manage to nibble on the pineapples. What I do need, though, is regular hoof care, which incurs costs; without these treatments, a donkey can encounter serious health problems. By supporting me, I assure my sponsor that I will strive to be a wonderful donkey companion, nurture my son, and be a good partner to my family and friends here on the farm.

Update, December 2025:

Our cherished Malaika has left us far too soon and unexpectedly. He developed a severe infection in his leg, and despite receiving prompt medical care, our usually resilient donkey father could not overcome the ordeal. After enduring five days of pain, he passed away quietly. We are devastated by this loss. Malaika's wife, Holly, and their young foal, Emilio, are feeling utterly helpless without him. Their grief is profound, even deeper than that of the entire Animal Aid Kenya team. Rest in peace, beloved Malaika. You will always hold a special place in our hearts. May you find tranquility in donkey heaven.
